Hydro power uses the power of flowing water, without wasting or depleting it in the production of energy; therefore, hydroelectric projects meet the definition of renewable.

Hydroelectric assets provide electricity that is readily available, reliable, clean and cost-effective.

Large Hydro is a clean source of electricity because it produces very few greenhouse gases, no other air pollutants, and it does not generate any toxic waste by-products.

Hydropower is affordable. Hydropower provides low-cost electricity and durability over time compared to other sources of energy. Construction costs can even be mitigated by using preexisting structures such as bridges, tunnels, and dams.

Unlike fossil fuels, hydropower does not destroy water during the production of electricity. Hydropower is the only renewable source of energy that can replace fossil fuels’ electricity production while satisfying growing energy needs.
